H2 Solution Lab

Building on the long-standing hydrogen expertise of the "Westfälische Hochschule - Westphalian University of Applied Sciences“, the "H2 Solution Lab" aims to pave the way for medium-sized companies in the region to enter the hydrogen economy. This will be achieved through the joint development of technical solutions and the training of academic professionals within the framework of a new master's program.
The Westfälische Hochschule plans to establish an H2 Solution Lab, where hydrogen system components and hydrogen plant technologies will be designed, developed, tested, and validated. The activities in this highly flexible development and testing center will focus on complete hydrogen production systems, including valves, electrolyzers, fuel cells, compressors, and storage units, as well as hydrogen utilization systems. These efforts are particularly aimed at supporting medium-sized companies in transitioning to a hydrogen economy. Usable scenarios will address areas such as refueling technology, process heat generation, and heat supply for residential districts.
Given the noticeable demand for mid-scale hydrogen system technology, which is currently addressed by very few other players, the H2 Solution Lab will focus on hydrogen systems and their components with a capacity of up to 1 MW. The application-oriented scientific expertise of researchers at the Westfälische Hochschule, who have been successfully developing hydrogen technologies — particularly high-pressure electrolysis systems — for years, will be aligned with the challenges and opportunities faced by regional companies.
This transfer-oriented symbiosis ensures that the projects implemented in the H2 Solution Lab will contribute valuable solutions to the challenges of the energy transition. As a result, the lab will foster value creation and sustain employment in the region.
